Bay Colony Cluster Dog - 2008

by Martine Meijering, Roadshow Coordinator.

The last Roadshow event for 2008 was the Bay Colony Cluster Dog Show, 4 – 7 Dec at the Expo Center in Boston.  Lots of thanks to Sandy Ingmanson, Lisa Gaudreau, Genie Viera, G/A, Marilyn and Jim Gilmour for taking the time to staff the NEOESR booth.  And extra special thanks to Sandy  and Lisa for setting up the booth on Wednesday evening and taking everything down on Sunday night.  Have to say that our booth looked extremely good this year......  Ruthie Reeves stopped by (dog show was part of her birthday gift).  Denver’s agility trainer came by a few times to make sure he behaved himself.  Sandy and Lisa put up flyers everywhere to visit Charley, Denver and Niles and to buy some tickets for the raffle we held every day.  All three dogs were very well-behaved at the booth, at the rescue parade and interacting with the public in general.  Everybody just loved Charley, Denver and Niles.  I’m glad I didn’t bring Murray, my All American agility queen, this year, she wouldn’t have appreciated all the attention the sheepies got.  Sandy also brought her shihtzu, Snikkers, who went from ‘don’t come close, ‘cause I’ll bite yours hands off’’ to a sweet, little dog, who just wanted to be petted.  Karen Norteman, who did the CGC testing at our picnic, was the MC at the Sunday rescue parade and she acknowledged Denver as one of her CGC graduates.
We did pretty good with donations and sales ($248 compared to $84 for the rest of 2008 and $36 for 2007).  Gail of  'Deja Blu Old English Sheepdogs' Kennels and Beverly, owner of the puppy 'Deja Blu The Road Less Traveled', donated the prize money, they received for the puppy winning the 6 months and under, to NEOESR.   Gail Bodisch is one of the top OES breeders and complemented Denver as to how good his coat looked.  Gail cut the hair around Denver’s eyes last year, when he was a little runt with big bumps on his butt.  And Louise, Doggie’s Duffelbags, who lost her OES to cancer, also gave us a donation.  People were very generous when they saw the three happy dogs at our booth.  We all had a great time.
And after almost a century at the Expo Center in Boston – the Bay Colony Cluster Dog Show is moving to the Rhode Island Convention Center, December 3 – 9.  We still have to figure out how to work that.
